Content

Swiss Sustainable Finance and the Green Fintech Network happily invite you to the in-person event on 16 April 2026 from 15:00 to 17:45 CET (followed by apéro), at ORBIZ Josef in Zurich center.

To limit global warming to 1.5°C, the IPCC estimates that around 6 billion tons of CO₂ will need to be removed from the atmosphere each year by 2050.

Carbon markets can play an critical role in compensating for emissions that will remain difficult to eliminate from sectors like heavy industry, aviation, and agriculture. However, these markets face important credibility challenges, such as concerns around transparency, measurement accuracy, additionality and the risk of double counting. Can new technologies such as the Internet of Things, satellite imagery and artificial intelligence help address these challenges?

The first part of the event will showcase technological solutions from innovative companies supporting the generation and monitoring of high-quality carbon projects.

  • Hyphen Global will present how IoT-enabled direct measurements help quantify real-time GHG removals and contribute to trust in nature-based climate solutions.

  • Open Forest Protocol will discuss how use of open-access data and immutable ledgers can support integrity and accountability in forest-based carbon projects.

  • Climeworks will share insights on direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) and on the development of other engineered carbon removal solutions.

The second part of the event will focus on how financial institutions and market infrastructure providers support the development of carbon markets.

  • Carbonfuture will explain how digital infrastructure contribute to increasing trust in the carbon removal markets at scale.

  • UBS will share the perspective of a global financial institution on the role of carbon markets in corporate transition strategies.

  • (Additional financial services representative being confirmed)

Each session will feature short presentations and a panel discussion, with open Q&A from the audience.
